Description

The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane is a mild, water-free serum for early signs of skin ageing, uneven tone and textural irregularities. Its entry-level concentration of retinol helps improve the look of fine lines and promotes a smoother, more even-looking complexion.

Squalane supports surface hydration and helps offset the dryness that can accompany retinol use. This 30 ml formula is a practical starting point for new retinoid users and should be introduced gradually in the evening, with daily sun protection.

  • Targets early and general signs of skin ageing.
  • Helps improve the appearance of fine lines linked to a loss of collagen and elastin.
  • Promotes smoother-looking skin texture and a more even tone.
  • Provides an entry-level 0.2% retinol concentration for users beginning a retinoid routine.
  • Squalane supports surface hydration and helps reduce the feeling of dryness associated with retinol use.
  • 0.2% Retinol: A vitamin A derivative that targets early signs of ageing, uneven tone and textural irregularities.
  • Squalane: A skin-compatible moisturising agent that supports surface hydration and helps improve comfort.
  • Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride and Jojoba Seed Oil: Emollient components that create the formula’s water-free, oil-like texture.

Format: Anhydrous serum.

  1. Use in the evening on clean, dry and unbroken skin.
  2. After water-based serums, apply a few drops to the face, avoiding the eye contour and corners of the mouth.
  3. Follow with moisturiser if needed.
  4. If you are new to retinoids, begin on non-consecutive evenings and increase use only as your skin builds tolerance.
  5. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning.

Refrigerate after opening and use within three months.

Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Retinol, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Hydroxymethoxyphenyl Decanone, BHT.

Ingredient lists may change. Check the list printed on the product packaging for the most current information.

  • Retinol can cause irritation, redness and peeling, especially around the eyes and mouth, while skin builds tolerance.
  • Do not use in the same routine as Copper Peptides, Direct Acids, Direct Vitamin C, other Retinoids or Multi-Active Delivery Essence.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Retinoids can increase sensitivity to UV radiation. Use sun protection every day.
  • This product is not an acne treatment.
  • Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing before use is advised.
  • If irritation occurs, rinse off, stop use and consult a physician.
  • Refrigerate after opening and use within three months.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Best suited to dry skin and adults who want to address early signs of ageing, uneven tone or irregular texture with an entry-level retinoid.

Sensitive skin should introduce it cautiously. The formula is water-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free; it is not oil-free. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

  1. Cleanse and dry the skin.
  2. Apply water-based serums, if used.
  3. Apply a few drops of Retinol 0.2% in Squalane in the Treat step of the evening routine.
  4. Follow with moisturiser as needed.
  5. The next morning, finish with broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Use Copper Peptides, Direct Acids, Direct Vitamin C, other Retinoids and Multi-Active Delivery Essence in a separate routine.

SKINORA GUIDANCE

What to know before you choose

Clear, product-specific answers based on verified brand guidance.

Is Retinol 0.2% in Squalane suitable for a first retinoid?
Yes. The 0.2% concentration is The Ordinary’s entry-level retinol option, but it should still be introduced gradually.

How often should I use it?
Begin on non-consecutive evenings, such as two or three times per week, and increase only if your skin remains comfortable.

Can I combine it with acids or vitamin C?
Do not use it in the same routine as Direct Acids, Direct Vitamin C, Copper Peptides, other Retinoids or Multi-Active Delivery Essence.

Does it need refrigeration?
Yes. Refrigerate after opening and use the formula within three months.

Is it an acne treatment?
No. It is formulated for signs of ageing, uneven tone and textural irregularities, not as a treatment for acne.
