Dry Skin Routine: Simple Morning and Evening Steps
A useful dry skin routine can stay simple: cleanse without stripping, apply moisturiser while skin is slightly damp and protect it from the sun. Extra serums are optional. If the basics do not leave your face comfortable, adding more acids or fragranced products usually makes troubleshooting harder.
Morning: protect the water you already have
Dry skin may not need a full cleanser every morning. A lukewarm water rinse can be enough when there is no heavy overnight product to remove. If you prefer cleansing, choose a mild fragrance-free cream, milk or low-foam formula and keep contact brief.

Pat the face so it remains slightly damp. Apply moisturiser promptly. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends creams or ointments rather than thin lotions for very dry skin and advises applying moisturiser after washing to reduce water loss.
Finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Sunscreen is not just an anti-ageing extra: sunlight can worsen visible dryness and irritation, and a comfortable sunscreen is more likely to be used consistently.
Evening: remove the day without over-cleansing
Remove water-resistant sunscreen or makeup with a suitable first cleanser. The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser is an in-stock oil-compatible option. Add a second gentle cleanser only if residue remains; double cleansing is not a rule for every dry face.
After rinsing, use an optional hydrating serum on damp skin. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 adds a humectant step, but it should be followed by a moisturiser so the routine also slows evaporation.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is a verified in-stock cream option. Apply a little more to flaky cheeks and less where the face feels comfortable.
What to look for in a moisturiser
A balanced dry-skin formula often combines three ingredient roles:
- Humectants such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid bind water at the surface.
- Emollients soften rough gaps between outer cells.
- Occlusive ingredients reduce evaporation.
Ceramides can be useful when the barrier feels weak, but no single ingredient makes a formula suitable for everyone. Fragrance-free, uncomplicated products are easier to evaluate when skin already stings.
Adjust the routine to Tbilisi seasons
Tbilisi weather and indoor heating can change how much protection skin needs. A lotion may feel sufficient in warm weather, while cold air and heated rooms often make a cream more comfortable. A clean humidifier can help when indoor air is very dry, but it does not replace moisturiser.

Avoid very hot water and long showers. Do not scrub visible flakes. If skin becomes tight after cleansing, shorten contact time and review the cleanser before buying another active.
Add actives one at a time
Retinol and exfoliating acids can still fit dry skin, but comfort comes first. Introduce one active on one or two evenings each week and keep recovery nights simple. When stinging or flaking increases, pause the active rather than compensating with five new products.
Persistent cracking, bleeding, strong itching, rash or pain can reflect eczema or another condition. Seek professional assessment when a basic routine does not improve the problem.
